A Little About Us...
Established in January of 2021, with offices located on Haida Gwaii, in Skidegate B.C. as well as in the Cowichan Valley, on Vancouver Island BC, Haida Tree Worx is a HAIDA majority owned Forestry based business. Majority owner Richard (Richie) Buxton lives in Skidegate and drives the day-to-day operations. Together, the shareholders of HTW bring over 65 years of operational experience to the company.
Haida Tree Worx was established in 2021. However, the corporate shareholders have been leaders in the logging industry over the past 20 years, having established very successful sister companies. Haida Tree Worx shareholders are leaders in Forestry and have built sufficient infrastructure to consistently deliver a high level of service to its customers. The addition of Haida Tree Worx was to fill the demand for Professional service providers on the coast, and provide additional value to our customers, as well as diversifying our business. The shareholders of Haida Tree Worx, recognize the opportunity of becoming an example of one of Haida Gwaii’s main service providers throughout the multiple forestry licensees and governments.
Our vision is to bring Hard work, professionalism and Integrity to our operations and deliver quality results that our clients can count on. To accomplish this, our goal is to build mutually beneficial partnerships. Through partnerships will work together to improve the economic and social infrastructure of the communities and companies within. We are committed to building a professionally respected, production based SAFE skilled company. In our operations on Haida Gwaii, all our crew members are Haida First Nations or Haida Gwaii residents first. We are committed to steady employment A backbone of work and steady paycheques that allow for the healthy balance of work and play. During time off, the crew spends time in and invests back into the community.
With initial contracts awarded in Jan 2021, we are currently exploring some diversity and expanding into silviculture work. The owners of Haida Tree Worx are committed to slow long-term growth and focused on keeping our roots in Haida Gwaii.
Forest Engineering
Haida Tree Worx is exploring engineering opportunities with several licensees in Haida Gwaii, and this will become another avenue of work in our portfolio which strengthen our diversity and allow for steady continuous employment in Haida Gwaii. A sister company currently provides steady engineering employment to 6 engineers that work all over the British Columbia Coast. They develop over 300,000M3 of timber to be harvested annually as well they offer market evaluations and are intimately knowledgeable with wood values and markets.
Contract Timber Falling
Haida Tree Work through its sister company Coastal Falling Operations employs 50 certified west coast qualified Timber fallers that works all over the British Columbia coast. Our annul falling volumes exceed 500,000m3. We are looking for opportunities to provide our falling services in Haida Gwaii through Haida Tree Worx expanding on the work we do on Island!
Forestry Climbers
Wind-Firming & single stem
Most of our crew specialize in wind-firming -The reduction of the trees live crown to reduce the canopy and the keep the tree from blowing over.
The skills required here are specialized and we take pride in rigorous standards and training. We have very in depth Standard Operating Procedures that are always slightly changing and being tweaked to ensure the latest knowledge and or technology is applied to the job.
Residential Tree Care
We have been working directly to local governments and municipalities and directly with specific nations in local vegetation management.
Whether its climbing Danger trees around infrastructure or removing invasive Alder we cover all aspects of vegetation management.
spacing, pruning, girdling, planting
We are currently exploring opportunities to build our business in this area over the next 12 months. Our intention is to build a Spacing crew and focus on Riparian Restoration management. This will keep the saws in our hands and sweat running down our faces when its too windy to wind-firm we will be able to keep the crew busy working. There is also Pride and a strong sense of giving back to the forest in working on the restoration side of Forestry from saving trees blowing over in the wind to ensuring the density’s are allowing new growth through the thick canopy, it feels good to give back from where we so often just take.
